On June 24, 2025, San Diego Black Pride hosted a lecture and discussion titled “Cut the Cigs, Not the Culture.” The conversation centered around the impact of tobacco and nicotine products on the Black Community with a special focus on the Black LGBTQIA population.
Attendees enjoyed food catered by a Black queer owned vegan restaurant called “We Be Grubbin,” which served mac and cheese balls, quac, and tofu tocos. Programming included a presentation, linked below, followed by what organizers described as “a very nuanced and meaningful conversation that moved our participants to tears almost.” The event was considered to be a success due to the impact it had on the audience, leaving San Diego Black Pride excited to incorporate anti-tobacco messaging and education in future programming for the Black LGBTQIA+ community.
