Breaking Free Day 2025

ree

Breaking Free Day 2025 was a powerful celebration of courage, community, and the ongoing journey toward nicotine freedom. Each year, people across the country come together to uplift the stories of Black and African immigrant individuals who are breaking free from the grip of commercial tobacco. The day, founded by Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist Dr. Karen J. Beard, serves as a reminder that liberation is not only possible—it’s happening every day in our families, neighborhoods, and communities.

This year’s observance highlights the strength found in shared experiences. Participants reflect on the challenges they’ve faced, the progress they’ve made, and the loved ones who inspired them to keep going. Breaking Free Day creates space for connection, healing, and empowerment, reminding us that quitting is not only a personal milestone but also a community victory. Through storytelling, events, and collective action, the day underscores the need to stand united against the tobacco industry’s targeted harm.

As stories unfold and voices rise, Breaking Free Day 2025 calls on all of us to take the next step, whether that means quitting, supporting someone who is, or advocating for change. It’s an invitation to build healthier futures and create environments where nicotine dependence is no longer a barrier to wellbeing. With resources, compassion, and community by our side, we can continue breaking generations free and lighting the path toward liberation for all.
