KOLS and FULSToP's Juneteenth and Tobacco: The Hidden Connection

Join the Collective, which includes our Regional Partners KOLS and FULSToP for their event Juneteenth and Tobacco: The Hidden Connection.

The conversation will explore the intersectionality between American slavery, the early tobacco industry, and the tobacco-related disparities the African-American community faces today. In 1619, the first enslaved Africans reached the shores of Virginia. Many people associate American slavery with cotton, but the truth is that enslaved Africans were originally brought over to cultivate another cash crop: tobacco. The event will run on Friday from 1-2pm.
